Professor Georg Gesk from the School of Law, Osnabrück University, Germany, Visited the School of Juris Master

On April 16, 2024, Professor Georg Gesk from the School of Law, Osnabrück University, Germany, visited the School of Juris master. Professor Shenjian Xu, Dean of the School of Juris Master, met with Professor Georg Gesk with Professor Wensheng Han, Party Secretary of the School of Juris Master, Vice Dean Ms. Min Liang, Dr. Jian Huang from the Public Law Research Center, Dr. Xian Zhang from the Private Law Research Center, and Miss. Huiqun Cao, the School’s Foreign Affairs Secretary. The meeting was chaired by Vice Dean Ms. Liang Min.

Professor Shenjian Xu welcomed Professor Georg Gesk to the School of Juris Master, giving a brief of China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) and providing a detailed overview of the School of Juris Master, through its achievements in School’s development, teaching, research, and student employment. Professor Shenjian Xu expressed good wish for future student exchanges and collaboration between the School of Juris Master and the School of Law in Osnabrück University.

Professor Wensheng Han warmly welcomed Professor Georg Gesk and introduced the history of the School’s development and disciplinary construction. Professor Wensheng Han initiated an in-depth discussion with Professor Georg Gesk on legal education, and law and artificial intelligence, exploring the impacts of AI on legal education and potential countermeasures.

Professor Georg Gesk provided an introduction to Osnabrück University, with a particular focus on the School of Law, its faculty composition, training models, and teacher evaluation mechanisms. He shared his academic and professional experience, as well as his achievements in advancing Chinese legal education and research. He also discussed his experiences and insights from participating in joint Sino-foreign education programs. Professor Georg Gesk expressed his enthusiasm for further collaboration with the School of Juris Master.

Vice Dean Ms. Min Liang thanked Professor Georg Gesk for his significant contributions to the School’s international connection. She looked forward to more support from him in areas such as international courses, foreign-related forums, and research.

Dr. Jian Huang shared his experiences as a academic staff, noting that Chinese criminal procedure law, which previously drew heavily from Anglo-American traditions, now places greater emphasis on European developments. He and Professor Georg Gesk discussed the subject of corporate criminal liability under German criminal law.

Dr. Xian Zhang shared her teaching and research experiences in the field of intellectual property. She discussed issues related to copyright recognition for AI-generated content with Professor Georg Gesk. Using the international lawyer and arbitration programs at the School of Juris Master as examples, she explored the topic of internationalization in legal education with him.

Both sides had in-depth discussions on topics such as international exchange and research collaboration. Professor Georg Gesk’s visit was warmly received, and his contributions are expected to further strengthen the academic and international connections between the two institutions.
