From November 13 to 14, 2024, a delegation led by Professor Shenjian Xu, Dean of the School of Juris Master in China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL), successfully visited the Dickson Poon School of Law at King’s College London and the School of Law at Queen’s University Belfast. The delegation included Vice Dean Liang Min, Dr. Ningyao Ye, Mr. Wu Di, and Ms. Cao Huiqun.
On November 13 2024, the delegation visited the Dickson Poon School of Law at King’s College London to engage in academic exchanges and collaboration discussions. This visit aimed to further promote international academic cooperation between the two schools and deepen dialogue and exchange in the field of legal education.
The delegation held in-depth discussions with Professor Christoph Kletzer, Vice Dean for International Affairs, Professor James Lee, Vice Dean for Education, and other representatives. The two sides explored topics such as collaboration on Juris Master programs, international student development, curriculum design, and the latest trends in legal research. They also conducted a focused discussion on the similarities and differences between the Chinese and British legal systems and the practical models of legal education.
A preliminary cooperation framework was drafted during the discussions, with specific ideas exchanged on potential projects. Notable progress was made in areas such as the development of courses on foreign-related legal governance and the establishment of mechanisms for academic exchange.

Both sides expressed their commitment to using this visit as a platform to deepen collaboration and work together to cultivate legal professionals with a global perspective. During the visit, the delegation also toured King’s College London’s teaching facilities, library, and legal research centers to gain a comprehensive understanding of the institution’s educational resources and research conditions.

On November 14, the delegation visited the School of Law at Queen’s University Belfast. The purpose of the visit was to advance international cooperation in legal education and explore new directions for legal education and research in the context of globalization.
The delegation engaged in in-depth discussions with Professor Joan Loughrey, Dean of the School of Law, Professor Philip McGowan, Director of International Student Exchanges, and other scholars. The discussions covered topics such as legal education collaboration, joint training programs, and cutting-edge legal research. The two sides reached broad consensus on course development and the sharing of academic resources in key areas such as technology law, comparative law, and legal ethics.

The meeting was divided into four sessions. The first and second sessions focused on summer programs and student exchange initiatives. The third session explored collaborative research in the field of law and technology. Professor Shenjian Xu introduced the School’s research progress in legal aspects of artificial intelligence, algorithmic governance, and smart judiciary. Professor Giancarlo Frosio, Director of the Global Technology Law Center at Queen’s University Belfast, shared the latest achievements in EU data governance and blockchain regulation. Both sides agreed on the importance of international collaboration in legal education and research to explore the deep integration of law and technology in an era of rapid technological advancement.

The fourth session centered on the differences between the two countries' legal systems and the practical models of legal ethics and professional legal education. Professor Shenjian Xu provided an overview of the characteristics and achievements of China’s Juris Master education. Professors Joan Loughrey, John Morison (Chair of the Royal Irish Academy’s Committee on Ethics, Politics, Law, and Philosophy), and Brice Dickson (Chief Commissioner of the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission) shared their expertise and experiences in EU legal ethics and legal education. The participants agreed that strengthening connectivity in legal education between China and the UK is crucial for cultivating legal professionals with global perspectives and cross-cultural capabilities.


The two sides also discussed student exchange programs, faculty visit initiatives, and the co-hosting of international academic forums, developing preliminary plans for future collaboration.

During the visit, the delegation toured Queen’s University Belfast’s campus, law library, and research facilities.
